Winford D. “Dean” Golden, age 88, of Lake City, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 14, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Conneaut, Ohio on June 21, 1930, the son of the late Winford P. and Zenia Soule Golden.
Dean graduated from West Springfield High School in 1948. After graduation he worked at G.E. and L. Hopkins Mfg. In 1950, after working at Conneaut News Herald he volunteered for the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean War, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge, Dean went to Veterans School for Linotype Operation and House Construction. He had worked as a mechanic for Brunswick Bowling and Lake City Homes. Dean worked as a printer for the now Erie Times News, retiring in 1993 after 35 years.
He built the family home in 1958 and had many interests including, playing classical guitar, cabinetry, home and furniture building, as well as gardening and lawn care. He even had a mowing business with his sons. Dean enjoyed vintage cars. He was a loving husband and father, and he always put his family first.
Dean was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where he and his family are active in music ministry. He had also been an usher at St. Johns the Evangelist Church in Girard for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Eleanor May.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alice M. “Marie” Garity Golden of Lake City, his children, Michael Golden and his wife Beth of Iowa, Timothy Golden and his wife Nancy of Florida, Mary Conti and her husband, Dick of Girard and Kathleen Golden of Lake City; 9 grandchildren: Barbara, Kimberly, Andrew, Emily, Grant, Damien, Kayden, Nicholas and Steven; and 2 great grandchildren, Willow and Gabriel. He is further survived by a very dear cousin, Joan Wells of Indiana and cousin, Eleanor Cooksey of Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews. Dean will be missed by his beloved dog, Hugo.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East,Girard on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. and are invited to attend prayers on Thursday morning at 9:45 at Burton Funeral Home, Girard, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at Blessed Sacrament, 1626 W 26th St, Erie, PA 16508 at 11 am with Fr. Phil Pinczewski, Celebrant. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Girard.
