Wilson Buchanan, 93, passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2021 with family, in the home of one of his sons. Wilson was born July 8, 1928, in Horse Nation, Mississippi, near present-day Houston, to the late Archie Buchanan and Callie Walton. After Callie’s passing, he was raised by the late Fred and Elnora Wright Buchanan.
As a young man, Wilson moved to Erie, PA beginning his working career at the Hammermill Paper Company and ending it at the General Electric Corporation, from which he retired after many years of service in the maintenance department. He volunteered by driving the Sunday School bus for Antioch Baptist Churchfor many years and was an active member of the congregation. In later years, he became a member of the House of Prayer Church and remained so until his death.
Wilson spent his later years enjoying warm summer days sitting on his porch, talking with friends who always stopped by to greet him, and walking throughout the neighborhood. He enjoyed watching cowboy movies, Judge Judy, and game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, and Family Feud. He loved to catch the city bus to travel throughout Erie and the surrounding areas; one of his favorite stops was the McDonalds on 5th & State to enjoy a cup of coffee with old friends and acquaintances.
He often attended Erie Seawolves baseball games with his family. Any day his family came to visit was a good day for him, as his family was his greatest source of happiness and pride. He beamed with delight to see grandchildren and great grandchildren and was full of love and genuine interest. Wilson was a thoughtful and pleasant man and leaves behind a legacy of positivity, generosity, serenity, and selflessness.
In addition to his parents, Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Appling Buchanan; two children, Hilda Laverne Buchanan and Walter Wayne Buchanan, who both died in infancy;four sisters, EarleenWalton, Jerleen Walton, Loreen Walton, and Elma; and three brothers, George Buchanan, John “JW” Grimm, and Willie Walton.
