Willie Mae Copeland Dean Washington, age 66, of Erie, made her transition from this life to a new and better life with her Lord on Tuesday, November 12th, 2019, after an extended illness, at Hamot Medical Center.
She was born June 4th, 1953 in Erie, Pa, daughter of the late Johnnie and Arrie Copeland. She was a resident of Erie for 66 years. At a young age she was introduced to the Lord, and not only loved to continuously learn about Him throughout her life but she also spread and taught his word to others. She taught Bible study at Church of Christ, where she worshiped for over 30 plus years. After graduating high school, she went on to college and graduated with a degree of Associate of Science. She became a preschool teacher who loved to teach all children. She was a natural born leader with a servant’s heart. In her early days she enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting, driving and always being open to learning new things and skills. She loved to go shopping, especially for others, and she also loved feeding the birds and critters around her home. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She avidly read and studied the Bible and touched many lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnnie Copeland, Jr. and Walter Lee Copeland; and her children, Toma Dean and Melissa Dean.
She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her in memory, her daughter, Lavette Dean and her son, Latrell Washington; five sisters, Mattie Whitson, Clearwater, FL, Bernice Carter (Bern), Mary Jordan (Muffie), Elgenia Copeland (FeeDee) and Carol Porter (SugarBaby), all of Erie; seven grandchildren, Jabrea Ellis, Breonia Mercer-Dean, Lavonte Dean, KeAusha Parker, Kahari Jordan, Amari Jordan, and Charles Jordan, IV; three great-grandchildren, Tristen Bell, Demi Bell and Marcellis Bell, all of Erie. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and Christian friends. She will be truly missed and we will celebrate her life and the woman she was.
Friends may call at the Church of Christ, 2317 W. Grandview, Erie PA 16506, on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2019 from 1 PM until the time of funeral service at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery
