William R. Trohoske, age 79, passed away peacefully on May. 9, 2017 after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 18, 1937, son of the late Robert and Sarah Jane (Hall) Trohoske.
Bill graduated from McDowell High School in 1955, where he excelled in sports, earning him the title “Pennsylvania All Around Athlete of the Year”. He attended Gannon College on a basketball scholarship, then going on to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he served 3 years. He began his career as a local small business owner, eventually retiring from the Thermoclad Company in 2002. At the age of 70, Bill became a PIAA football referee, an activity he enjoyed until October 2016. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed golfing and meeting his friends at the Sportsmen’s Club. He especially loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also loved his nieces and nephews like his own. His favorite times included family gatherings and spending time with his brothers, uncles, and friends. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Sportsmen’s Club, Erie Maennerchor Club, Elks Lodge, and American Legion.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Donald and their wives, Eileen and Betty, respectively, and sister-in-law Annette Fogleboch.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan (Fogleboch) Trohoske and their six children, Chrissie (John) Simmons, David Trohoske, Jill Trohoske, Linda Trohoske, Stephen (Yelena) Trohoske, and Julie (Jeffrey) Ambrose, along with his nine grandchildren, Christian, Rowen, Justin, Jeffrey, Chase, Cole, Artem, Margot, and Milla. He is further survived by his uncle and best friend Richard (Roszan) Trohoske, brothers and sisters in-law Jack (Mary Kay) Fogleboch, Robert Fogleboch, Susan Cappelletty, and William (Maryanne) Fogleboch, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St., on Friday, May 12,2017 from 2-5 and 7-9 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
