William A. Schaal, Jr., age 62, a resident of Harborcreek Township, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 18, 2015, after a lengthy and courageous struggle with multiple myeloma. He was born March 8, 1952, in Erie, PA, the son of William A. Schaal, Sr. and the late Alice Mary Rogala Schaal.
Bill graduated from Strong Vincent High School, class of 1970. At the time of his death he was a corporate officer in the family business, Team Hardinger Transportation and Warehousing. He formerly owned North Shores Transportation serving Welch Foods in North East, PA.
Bill was a member of Luther Memorial Church, the Erie Maennerchor Club, the Traffic Club of Erie and The Erie Yacht Club. He was an avid boater and enjoyed spending his summers on the water. He also loved his many pets over the years.
Bill is survived by his loving companion, best friend and caregiver, Barbara Reese, and her family, his father, William A. Schaal, Sr. and his wife, Carol Liebau Schaal, of Erie, his siblings, Mary Alice Ross, of Erie, the Rev. Richard M. Schaal (Jim), of Owego, NY, and Kristiane Thomas (Tim), of McKean, PA, nieces, Megan Ross and Taylor Thomas, nephew and Godson, Timothy Thomas, and Godson, Michael Przybycin, of Tampa, FL, along with an uncle, aunts, several cousins and many good friends and neighbors.
In addition to his mother, Bill, was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Edna Schaal, his maternal grandparents, Dan and Stefania Rogala, and his stepmother, Barbara Rilling Schaal.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the kindness and excellent care provided by The Regional Cancer Center, Regional Home Health and Hospice and the St. Vincent Infusion Center.
No calling hours will be observed. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501, with the Rev. William Coleman officiating. Private entombment in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, Erie, PA 16502.
