William E. Rogers, age 84, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2016, just one day shy of his 85th birthday.
He was born in North Girard, on January 29, 1931, a son of the late Glenn and Addie Garity Rogers.
After attending Rice Avenue Union High School, he served 4 years in the Air Force. Bill worked at Marx Toys for 33 years and retired in 1995 from EMSCO after 9 years.
He was a member of the Lake City Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved to mow his grass. Watching the Price is Right, golfing and cooking shows were some of his favorite shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Carl Garity, who raised him since he was a child; and two brothers, Robert and Chuck Rogers.
Bill is survived by his children: David Rogers of Girard, Linda Dubowski (James) of Erie, Bonnie Vargulich (Charles) and William Rogers, all of Girard; a sister, June Matthews (Robert); nine grandchildren: Michael and Ashley Rogers, Melissa Hamilton (Michael), David Dubowski, William Luxon (Natalie), Stacey Gadley (Mark), Kristy Kibbe (Michael), Kelly Diehl, Tiffany Frutos (Dennis) and Kelly Oler (Steve); and 14 great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Saturday from 11am until the time of the service at 2pm with Reverend Bruce Davis officiating. Burial will be at Girard Cemetery with full military honors.
