William Oshinsky

October 4, 1931 — April 9, 2022

William J. Oshinsky, age 90, of Millcreek, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, after a 25 year struggle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Bill was born October 4, 1931, in Library, PA, the son of the late John and Catherine King Oshinsky.

He served in the U.S Army during the Korean War.

Bill was a skilled welder, working at General Electric, Copes Vulcan and then American Sterilizer for 26 years, retiring in 1991. To call Bill an outdoorsman would be a severe understatement. Nearly every day, “Billy O” could be found either in the woods, in his boat or on the ice. When the weather wasn’t cooperating, he would be found solving the world’s problems with fishing buddies at Smitty’s Bait Stand or Walnut Creek. He was a member of SONS of Lake Erie and spent several years as a charter boat captain. He loved to volunteer at the City Mission; and was a member of St. Jude Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Oshinsky; a sister, Marie Allen; and brothers-in-law Jack McGill and Harold Allen.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara (Gurz) Oshinsky; daughters Carol McGrath (Brian) of Millcreek; Sandy Leuenberger (Mark) of Loveland, OH; granddaughter Caitlin McGrath Gerber (Will) of Hudson, OH; grandsons Brennan Leuenberger of Chicago, IL; Daniel Leuenberger of Charlotte, NC; great-granddaughter Elliot Adair Gerber of Hudson, OH; sister Gertrude McGill and sister-in-law Edith Oshinsky. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Chanel & Katerina and Staff at Pleasant Ridge Manor and the Staff at Promedica Hospice for all their care and support.

At Bill’s request, no calling hours will be observed. Private funeral arrangements entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service at West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St. Erie.

Memorials may be sent to the Erie City Mission, 1017 French Street, Erie, PA 16501.
