William J. Kunz, age 71, of Erie, passed away on Saturday April 29, 2017 at home, surrounded by family. He was born in Erie on April 20, 1946, a son of the late Roman and Veronica Christy Kunz. Bill graduated from Academy High School in 1964 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged after earning the rank of Sargent. Upon return home, he began his 37 year career with Penelec retiring as a supervisor in 2006.
Wild Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and trap shooting. He enjoyed his golfing vacations to Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, and Pinehurst. He knew how to fix anything, from carpentry to electrical. He was a life member of the Sunflower Club and a member of the Elks Lodge and Siebenbuerger Club. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed life to its fullest.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathy Kindle Kunz; a son Kyle Kunz; a daughter Kerri (Brian) McCall; three stepchildren Tiffanie (Sam) Fry, Kim (Billy) Brown, Heather (Mike) Pallotta; five grandchildren: Liam and Elliette McCall, Brooklyn Fry, and Brittany and Kody Brown; and three great grandchildren. He is further survived by several close friends and his traveling golfing buddies.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Tuesday May 2nd from 4-7pm at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.), and attend a time of sharing there on Wednesday May 3rd at 10am.
