William N. Irwin, age 73, of Millcreek, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous fight with cancer.
Bill was born in Warren, PA on May 25, 1942, son of the late Claude and Rachel (Johnson) Irwin.
He was a graduate of Warren High School in 1960. Throughout his forty plus years working, Bill was an owner/ operator truck driver and as well drove for Crossetts, Inc. of Warren and then for WalMart for close to ten years before retiring in 2003.
Bill was an avid tinkerer, enjoyed working with all his tools particularly on motorcycles, cars and trucks. He was a fan of all motorsports, especially Nascar and drag racing. Bill was known as a very kind loving person, who was very selfless and was always concerned for others before himself. Bill’s favorite statement was, “one day closer to spring.” More than anything Bill was a devoted loving family man as a husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father and mother in law Carl and Dorothy Atkins. Bill was also preceded by an infant brother David.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, whom he married on December 24, 1971, Cheryl Atkins Irwin and his children Alicia Younger (Jeff) of North Carolina, Scott Irwin (Tracey Coon) of Erie, Todd Irwin (Charlene) of Montana and Mark Irwin (Jennifer Cragle) of Fairview, PA. His loving grandchildren Zachary and Samantha Younger of NC, Andrew, Kacie, Kyle Irwin of Erie, Grace Irwin of Montana and Marly and Addison Irwin of Fairview also survive.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful caring nurses and staff of Regional Home Health and Hospice, particularly to Carren.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Wednesday, March 9th from 5 p.m. until the time of service there at 7 p.m.
