William Gamble

January 22, 1928 — September 3, 2015

William H. “ Bill” Gamble, age 87, of Erie, passed away Thursday September 3, 2015 at the Erie VA Medical Center.

He was born January 22, 1928 in Blairsville, PA, son of the late Roy E. and Anna Mae Kelly Gamble.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea and worked for the Millcreek Township Police Department for many years. He was a member of the Kearsarge Fire Department, was a PA State Fire Instructor for 24 years and was also an active member of Grace Church in McKean. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Pittsburgh Pirate baseball and he loved woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Martha Jane Kaufman and Geraldine “Peanuts” Horn and a brother Robert Gamble.

Survivors include his wife Frances Ann George Gamble, two daughters, Paula Sterrett & her husband William of Fairview, Lorrie Cowan of Tennessee, two sons, Michael Gamble and his wife Darline of Florida, William R. Gamble and his wife Jennie of Erie; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and a sister, Mildred “Peach” Matvyia of Blairsville, PA.

A future memorial service will be held at Grace Church with a date and time to be announced.

Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery is private for the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506.
