William Eric Ericson, age 80, formerly of Zemville Drive, Erie, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Batesburg, S.C. He was born on March 31, 1937, in Erie, son of the late Ernest G. and Ethel Orvis Ericson, who died shortly after Eric's birth. Eric was lovingly raised by Ernie and his second wife, Irene Nelson Ericson.
A longtime resident of Erie, Eric graduated from Academy High School in 1957 and studied computer science at Tri-State Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served as an aircraft mechanic with the Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Thirty-three. Over many years, he worked for American Sterilizer and Copes Vulcan, owned and operated Ericson's Sunoco at Rt. 8 and I-90 and later Ericson's Service Station in Waterford, and drove trucks long distance. He enjoyed golfing and attending the YMCA. Later in life, Eric moved to South Carolina to be near his daughter Robin.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Beverly C. Buerk Ericson; a daughter, Robin G. Ericson; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sucato Ericson.
Survivors include a son, Jay E. Ericson of Erie; two granddaughters, Samantha and Alexandra Ericson, both of Erie; an aunt, Pat Via of Erie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins including Polly Henry of S.C.
Family and friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home Friday, June 16, 2017 from 2 p.m. until time of a Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Moyer Officiating.
