William J. Egan, age 80, formerly of Long Island, NY, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Sarah Reed Retirement Center. He was born May 31, 1935, in Queens, NY, son of the late Michael J. and Anna C. Sullivan Egan. He earned a Bachelor of Art's degree from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Egan worked as a Union Carpenter specializing in acoustic ceilings. While a student in college, he was taught the art of making rosary beads and following retirement designed and sold his own rosary creations. He was a people person and made friends easily.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Egan in 2014.
Survivors include two daughters, Eileen A. Egan Erhart of Erie and Elizabeth Egan of Hollywood, FL; a son, William Egan (Rola) of Greer, SC; sister, Nancy Horgan (Dan) of Barrington, RI; his former wife, Joan Egan of Patchogue, NY; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend a Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Mr. Egan Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th Street. Memorials may be made to Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, 227 West 22nd Street, Erie, PA 16502; or to Marist College, 3399 North Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.
