William Callahan

William R. “Billy” Callahan, Jr., age 60, formerly of Fairview, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Niagara Village.

He was born in Erie, on August 5, 1955, a son of the late William and Arlene Baldwin Callahan.

Billy graduated from Fairview High School in 1975. He worked for Fairview School District for 25 years in the maintenance department, retiring in 2008.

He was a member of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department; Sons of the American Legion Post 742 in Fairview, in which he was a past officer and commander. Billy was a certified scuba diver and volunteer with the Fire Department Scuba Team.

He enjoyed hunting and loved visiting with his friends from Canada.

Billy is survived by his three sisters: Linda Kretschmaier and her husband, David of Columbus, Ohio, Karen Marshall and her husband, Hal of Edinboro and Susan Natalie and her husband, Peter of Millcreek. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Wednesday from 3-7pm at which time the Fairview Fire Department will hold a Fireman’s prayer service. Funeral service will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 11 am in the All Faith Chapel.

Private burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
