William Alex

William P. “Billy” Alex, age 62, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly as a result of a swimming accident, on July 1, 2018. 

He was born in Erie, PA on November 15, 1955, a son of the late Paul and Anna Mae Janis Alex. 

Billy was a graduate of Cathedral Prep High School and worked for Hammermill Paper Company for 28 years.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.  Billy enjoyed cruising in the best looking Mustang in Erie.  He loved the water and enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and scuba diving.  Billy also loved the Minnesota Vikings and watching football games and Nascar with family and friends. 

Billy had a huge heart and was one of the kindest people who would do anything for anyone.  He had a love for animals especially his four cats which he rescued, Gato, Figaro, Baby and Kali. Billy will be missed by all who knew him.  

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Alex. 

Billy is survived by his three nieces, Marianne Kovac (Don), Stacy Hagens (Scott) and Robin Fossen (Jake); and eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Chloe and Noah Kovac, Brandon, Kyle, Breonna and Dominick Hagens, and Madelyn and Ava Fossen. He is further survived by Nicole Borkowski and her daughter Avery, along with many cousins and many good friends.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10^th St., Erie on Sunday, July 8^th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 130 East 4^th Street, on Monday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Power officiating.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
