Wesley Charles Thomas, age 68, of Erie, passed away on Thursday December 14, 2017 at UMPC Hamot. He was born in Erie, PA on March 23, 1949 to the union of the late Homer B. and Christella Ross Thomas.
Wesley Graduated from Academy High School 1967. He worked at GE as a welder until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1969. He then joined the USCG and retired in 1989 as Chief Petty Officer. He was also a correctional officer at the Albion Prison and was self-employed with Thomas and Sons Security Doors. He was well known for his carpentry work at the JFK Medical Dept., Martin L. King Center and working on the Art Center. He enjoyed remodeling many homes and Churches in Erie and Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of the 500 Club. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grands. Wesley enjoyed music and was an avid Oklahoma Thunders fan. He was a blessing to many and helpful to all in need. He tried to see the good in everyone that came into his life.
In addition to his parents, Wesley is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Raymond Thomas and one sister, Gloria Moffett as well as a granddaughter, Adalyn Pickett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; two sons, Christian of Erie, PA and Richard of Atlanta, GA; one step son, John Pickett (Jodi) of Rutland , MA; three step daughters, Kathryn Wiley, Aisha Stapp (Antonio) and Louise Wiley of Erie, PA; step mother Cordneil Thomas; step brother Duane Arrington (Tesha) of Erie, PA; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Further surviving are three brothers in law, David, Michael (Connie) and Dennis Coates of Erie, PA; two sisters in law, Nina Ross (Fredrick) and Denise Wilkerson of Clinton Twp., Mi; three cousins, who were very close and like brothers, Bobby Jones, Michael Ross and James Thomas; and one cousin, who was very close like a sister, Margie Duckworth. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie, PA 16510 on Friday, December, 22nd from 3 pm until 5 pm and are invited to a funeral service there on Saturday, December 23rd at 11 am. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
