Wesley Smith

December 19, 1941 — September 14, 2015

W. Wayne Smith, age 73, of Erie, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot on September 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lima, OH on December 19, 1941, the son of the late Wesley L. and Winona M. Dellinger Smith.

He was a graduate of McDowell High School’s class of 1959, later attending Gannon and Penn State Behrend.

He worked at Copes Vulcan as a Graphics Supervisor for 35 years.

He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and sang in the choir, participated in the Lake Erie Sound Barbershop Chorus, and was very involved with Koinonia. Wayne loved entertaining and was a wonderful comedian and musician. He was a sensitive and caring individual of others needs and loved and adored all his family.

He is survived by wife Carol Smith of Erie; daughters: Kym Gack and her husband Bill Gack of Pittsburgh, Amy Smith of Erie; daughter-in-law Terry Smith of Erie; sister Jerry Thompson and her husband Larry Thompson of Erie; a brother Tim Smith and his wife Donna Smith of Erie. He is further survived by many grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife Kathleen A. Smith; a son, Scott A. Smith; and a sister, Deana C. Bailey.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Avenue, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and are invited to attend a service there on Friday, September 18th, 2015 at 10:30 am.

Burial will be in Laurel Hill.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church 3856 West 10th Street Erie, PA16505.
