Wendell A. Cole, affectionately known as the “Little Joker,” age 78, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at his residence. He was born May 13, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Dr. James H. Cole and Lucille (Ball) Cole. Wendell was raised in the Pittsburgh area; he graduated from South Hills High School, where he excelled in his studies and track and field. Following his graduation he served his country in the Air Force. After his discharge, he attended Central State University, in Wilberforce, OH. Wendell was a master painter, an avid reader, and he enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Robert C. Cole, and James H. Cole “Big Joker.” Survivors include his sister, Sandra Keys and her husband James of Lindenwald, NJ; his daughter, Marcella King of CA; his nieces, Cherise Coles and her husband Terry, of Erie, PA, Martha Brogden and her husband Maurice of Gaithersburg, MD, Candice Benson of Michigan; and his grandchildren, Porsha, Micheal, Daja’h, Drajon and Jaylen.
Burial will be at the Homestead Cemetery, Homestead, PA. Arrangements were handled by Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 W. 10th St., Erie.
