Walter Skopow, Jr.

     Walter John Skopow, Jr., 79, of Harborcreek and formerly of Buffalo, NY, died on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village.  He was born on July 9, 1938, in Erie, son of the late Walter John and Evelyn McClymont Skopow.  A 1956 graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk, VA, he earned a Business Management Degree from McKendree College, Chicago, IL in 1979.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines.  Mr. Skopow was an Assistant Manager of Material Management for National Fuel for 13 years; and previously worked for Lord Corporation, Hughson Chemical Co., and various trucking companies including Interstate, Trans American and Campbell 66.  He owned his own company Training Resources, and also worked for the Options Program for at risk youth through the city of Niagara Falls in New York and worked in an after school program for disadvantaged youth at the Barber National Institute.  He taught Licensed Material Management at Buffalo State College and did consulting work for General Physics Corporation.  Mr. Skopow was a member of Faith Lutheran Church; Lake Erie Lodge 347 F.& A.M.; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Erie; East Erie Moose Lodge, Harborcreek; and Mensa International; and golfed in the Shrine Club Golf League.
     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Fetzer.
     Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Roberta H. Anderson Skopow; a son, Walter Skopow III and wife Koreen of Buffalo, NY; three daughters, Molly Heil of Carmel, IN, Paula Fetzer of Annandale, NJ and Jennifer Wagner and her significant other Ray Delgado of Buffalo, NY; two brothers, Charles Skopow and wife Gail and David Skopow and wife Joanne, all of Erie; eight grandchildren, Heather Skopow of Boise, ID, Katie Wagner of Erie, Sara Fetzer and Shane Fetzer, both of Annandale, NJ, Jeffrey Skopow of El Paso, TX, Matthew Heil of Dallas, TX, Ryan Wagner and wife Beth of Conneaut, OH and Christopher Heil of Fort Lauderdale, FL: a great-grandson, Jack Walter Wagner of Conneaut, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     The family will receive friends at Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 East Lake Road, Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of a Celebration of Life Service there at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Kenneth H. Thompson, Interim Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, will officiate.  Michael Anderson, nephew of the deceased, will offer the eulogy.  Military Honors will be conducted by Erie Crawford County Burial Detail.  Memorials may be made to Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, OH 44106.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.
