Walter Roland Love Jr., age 65, of Erie, passed away, Friday April 15, 2016 at the Manor Care (Twin brook) in Lawrence Park, PA.
He was born March 18, 1951 a son of Sylvia Thomas Thurston and the late Walter Roland Love Sr.
After graduating from East High School in 1969, He attended Edinboro University for 2 years and then went on to become one of the ten African American officers for the City of Erie Police Department, hired in 1974. He retired as a Police Detective after 30 years and was also employed with the Erie School District Police Department for 20 years.
Walter had a love for fishing, bowling , and golf.
Walter Love Jr. was preceded in death by his father Walter Roland Sr., and his brother Michael E Love.
He leaves to cherish in memory his wife Linda Gambill Love, his son; Walter Michael Love, his two daughters, Amber Sherrod (Aubrey) of New Hope, Alabama and Sara Gambill of Erie; one sister, Jacqueline A. Love (James Becker); one aunt Martha Robinson, and seven grandchildren: Ahja, Santos, Amia, Anya, Elaine, Jeremiah and Lance. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Friends may call with the family, Friday April 22, 2016 from 4pm until 8pm at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street Erie, PA. The Erie Retired Police Association will have a brief service at 4:30 PM.
Service will be Saturday April 23, 2016 at 10am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church located at 516 East 13th Street. Erie, PA. Officiating, Father Bernard Urbaniak. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
