Virginia Maniece

Virginia Belle Smith Maniece, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 at LECOM Senior Living.

Born on February 29, 1932, in Hazard, KY, a daughter of the late Van Smith, Sr. and Myrtle Olinger Smith.  She was a 1951 graduate of Liberty High School, Hazard, KY and moved to Erie in 1956.  Virginia worked at as a cashier at State Street Food Market and Paul Bunyan Market.

She was a member of St. James AME Church and served as an Usher and a member of the Stewardess Board. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, William Maniece, whom she married on December 4, 1953 and who passed on August 1, 2001; four brothers, Van Smith, Jr., George Smith, Robert Smith and James Smith; and four sisters, Margaret (Sis) Hogg, Ruth Hogg, Monica Smith and Joyce Smith.  She is survived by one daughter, Yvonne Woodard, of Erie; one son, William Maniece, Jr. and wife Sherry of Bowie, MD; six grandchildren, Steffanie Jasper (Michael) of Pittsburgh, Marcel (Kennya) Maniece of Atlanta, GA, Michael (Erin) Maniece of Laurel, MD, Shanell Maniece of Baltimore, MD, Mica (Eric) Anderson, of Aurora, CO and Sage Maniece of Bowie, MD; twelve great-grandchildren, Lauren, Natalie & Matthew Jasper, Marcel, Jr., Sa’niyah, Malaya, Morgan & Stephanie Maniece, McKenna & Mia Maniece, Shawn Wright and Axel Anderson. She is further survived by two brothers, Donald (Carol) Smith and Sam (Helen) Smith of Indianapolis, IN and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road, on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 11 a.m. until the time of service there at 12 p.m. The service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott/.   Masks must be worn and all CDC guidelines will be followed.

Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery
