Virginia Downie

Virginia E. Downie, age 96, of Erie, died on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born in Ferndale, MI on June 5, 1919 the daughter of the late Emma Belle Ager and John E. Korn.

Virginia graduated from Academy High School in Erie and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was very caring and giving of her time and enjoyed her volunteer work at UPMC Hamot formerly known as Hamot Hospital and Manchester Presbyterian Home.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death her husband, Thomas Downie.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Lee Nagy and husband Steven of Erie and their children Stephanie Nagy (Pete) Dolak, Stacie Nagy Reynolds, Tom Nagy, and Shawn (Lisa) Nagy and a son, Brian Downie and wife Marilyn of Walnut Creek, CA and their daughters Jennifer and Alison. Virginia is further survived by her great grandchildren Anthony Strain, Timothy Strain, Kyle Nagy, Robert Reynolds II, Bradly Dolak, Jacob Dolak, and Lexis Nagy; and her sister Shirly Anne Smith and husband Jack of Salisbury, NC.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
