Virginia R. Hall Howland Church age 90, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Golden Living Walnut Creek, Millcreek, PA.
She was born in Coudersport, PA on April 20, 1925, daughter of the late Leo H. and Hanna Woodcock Hall.
Virginia worked as a riveter at Curtis-Wright in Buffalo, NY during WWII. After moving to Erie, she worked for the Red Barn Restaurants as a manager and also as manager of A-Plus convenience stores.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Erie.
Virginia enjoyed spending time with her late sister Donna Stone, quilting, basket making, and participating in the life of her church in dinners, rummage sales and especially as a greeter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Howland and her second husband, Raymond T. Church; two sisters, Margaret Hall and Donna Stone; and a brother, Donald Hall.
She is survived by a son, William “Woody” Howland and his wife Susan of Jamestown, NY; a granddaughter, Shareena Doyle and her husband John Ziegler of Ithaca, NY; two sisters, Grace Minteer (Wayne) of Coudersport, PA, and Patricia Damewood of Poplar Bluff, MO; and a brother James Hall of Erie. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) Erie, PA 16506, on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Parkinson officiating.
Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
