Violet L. Clinger, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in New Bethlehem, Pa. on January 4,1921, the daughter of the late John B. and Elizabeth Braden Wells.
During World War II Violet was a welder of propeller blades for the boys in the fighting aircraft SB2C Helldiver bomber. Also known as the A-25 Shrike is a dive bomber developed by Curtiss Wright, in Beaver Pa. Violet went on to become a longtime employee of the G.C. Murphy Co at the West Erie Plaza location, working as a Buyer.
She was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God in Girard, Pa where she taught Missionettes for years and belonged to the Auxiliary of the V.F. W. of Erie and the Order of the Eastern Star, Emporium, Pa.
Violet reached her goal of turning 100 years old in January 2021. Her family was very important to her and she adored all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip J. Clinger, her son Dennis L. Clinger, a daughter Carol J. Scott; and siblings, four brothers; Harry, Herbert, James and Alfred Wells, two sisters Mildred Bowser and Geraldine Hepler.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Barto; and a daughter in law, Lorraine Clinger. She is further survived by grandchildren: Teresa Weaver and husband Samuel and a son; Stephanie Barto and son; Missy and husband Joseph Schwartz and family, Matt Clinger and wife Trisha and family, Mark Clinger and wife Alicia, Kim Fox and family, John Jr. and wife Pam Scott and family, Steve Scott and wife Amy and family; as well as Step grandchildren Sue Ross and family and Steve Alcorn and family. Violet is further survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard on Wed. April 7th, from 4pm until the time of the service at 7 pm. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott. All CDC guidelines will be followed and masks will be required
