Viola A. Bernatowicz

Viola Bernatowicz, age 94, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

She was born in Erie on December 10, 1929, a daughter of the late Marie and Herman Peplinski.

Viola worked a number of years in the hospitality industry and later was the owner of the Red Lion Tavern on Liberty Street. She enjoyed baking and cooking, sharing many treats with her family and friends. She also enjoyed bowling and horses.

Viola lived at St. Joseph Apartments for the past thirty four years, participating in bingo and casino excursions. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Bernatowicz; a granddaughter, Taylor Bernatowicz; her sisters, Delores Leone and Margie Drinkwater; and brother, Joseph Peplinski.

Viola is survived by her children, John (Rose) Brent, Richard (Diana) Bernatowicz, Thomas (Dorothy) Bernatowicz, Brian (Christina) Bernatowicz; grandchildren, Donnie, Branon, Rachel, Jay, Ashley, and Roman. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26^th St., Erie.
