Vernon Blakely

Vernon Lynwood Blakely, age 84, of Erie, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at his residence.

He was born on September 8^th, 1938, in Laurel, MS.  Son of the late Willie and Theresa Bowie Blakely.

Vernon graduated from LaurelMiddle School, Oak ParkHigh School, Class of 1957 and received his BS in Biology from TougalooCollege in Jackson, MS.  He served in the US Army, Special 4^th Class.  He had worked in education, was a social worker and a Police Officer in Erie.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Brackett Blakely; two brothers, Willie and Charles Blakely and his sister, Celeta Moore.

He is survived by his daughters, Valerie Taylor, Kim House and Katie Blakely, all of Erie, Melissa Henderson and husband Edward of Charleston, SC, Wanda White and husband James of Prince George, VA and Stephanie Kennedy of Albuquerque, NM and his son, Eric Blakely and wife Audra from Matthews, NC.   Vernon is further survived by 13 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on the family at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown 602 W. 10^th Street, on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church 2624 German Street, Erie at 12:00 Noon. Burial to follow in Erie Cemetery.
