Verniece Howard

Verniece Howard, 88, was born on May 29, 1934, in Canton Mississippi, and transitioned peacefully
January 26, 2023 surrounded by her family.
She is the daughter of the late Rev. Ernest Sr. and Rivera Merriweather Riley.
She is a graduate of Academy High and Villa Maria College.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arthur Otis Howard, two brothers: Charlie Riley and Ernest Riley Jr., and a special lifelong friend Rosalind Peggy Baker.

Verniece lived a life overflowing with service, love, creativity, and generosity. Her dedication to family,
friends, and community was second only to her dedication to the Lord. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, usher, choir member, prayer partner, mentor, trustee and Deaconess. She was a bookworm, master of the kitchen, a vanguard of style and fashion, and a lifelong practitioner of health and wellness. Verniece had a sensitivity to social injustice issues and engaged in political activism throughout her life. Her perspective of positivity, confidence, grace, wisdom -- and most importantly -- humor is forever memorialized and celebrated by those who felt her immense capacity to love. A fierce, selfless love which will forever stay with all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 4 children: Russell (Linda) Howard, Randall (Leslie) Howard, Dawn
Howard, Wayne (Cheri) Howard; 14 grandchildren: Russell Jr, Craig (Cindy), Whitney (Keith II), Myles, Alexis, Nicholas, Jeffrey II, Cyana, Kiara, Stephon (Sean), April (Amorie Sr), Quentin (Kaitlin), Aimee (Tom) and Jalon; 8 great grandchildren: Dymond, Amorie Jr., Keith III, Kalvin, Kolin, Kleo, Melody and Nova; One sister Bonnie Young and lifelong friends, Mabel Pinkston Yancy, Francis McWilliams and Bertine Hamilton.

Friends may call at Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 E 5th St. Erie, PA 16507 on Saturday, February 11 from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00pm. Private Inurnment.

The Howard family would like to thank Shiloh Baptist Church family and special thanks to her caregivers: Cheri Howard, Nadine Noble, Amber Barnes, Pat Quinn, Kathy Wiley, Gina Satelli, Fatin Pulliam, Darlene Stokes, Jamika Lucas, Laurie Roesch and Shayna Barrayug; Lecom Senior Living Center and Millcreek Community hospital.
