Verna Roderick

Verna A. Roderick, age 81, of Millcreek, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness.

She was born in Massillon, OH on February 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Giran Olenick.

Verna graduated from Washington High School (Massillon, OH). She and her husband William met when they were both 14 years old and were married for over 57 years. She was a long time member of St. Jude the Apostle Church and the Altar Society.

Verna was an avid reader who also enjoyed the beach, swimming, music and her cats. Most important to her was her family and friends who she loved and cared about very much.

Verna is survived by her husband, William M. Roderick; her four children, Michael Roderick and his wife Michelle of Pittsburgh, Brian Roderick and his wife Diane of Connecticut, Lisa Roderick of Erie and Megan Mashyna and her husband Matthew of Erie. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Jamie, Katie, Sarah, Michael, Marie, Rod, Josie, Rowan; five great-grandchildren and many dear friends, including Michele, Kay and Mig.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.) on Sunday, July 6th, from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th St. on Monday, July 7th, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jason Feigh officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
