Valma Mumford

Valma B. Mumford, age 93, formerly of Girard, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Ball Pavillion.

She was born in Ziegler, Illinois, on March 13, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Elina Paski Blakey.

Valma graduated from Mercyhurst College with a degree in Education. She worked at Fairview High School where she taught English and Typing. Valma was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Erie Retiree Teacher’s Association. She loved reading and crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ina Humes and a nephew, Kenneth Barber

Valma is survived by her daughter, Kathleen E. Jones and her husband Robert G. of New Bern, NC and her son, Richard G. Mumford and his wife Joyce of Girard; three grandchildren: Jeffrey M. Nelson, Jason R. Mumford and Heather J. Agnello; and 10 great grandchildren; and a niece, Jeanette Rebeck

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home Girard, 525 Main St. East, in Girard, on Friday from 10:30 am until the time of the service at 12:30 with Reverend David Laakso officiating.
