Torrance Barthelmes

On Thursday, September 13, 2018, Torrance F. Barthelmes (Terry, Papa) 83 of Fairview, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a brief illness. He was born in Erie on August 26, 1935.  Terry will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 58 years, Lita Lander Barthelmes. Terry is survived by his children, Scott (Linda) Barthelmes of Pittsburgh, PA, Lori L. Barthelmes of Yukon, OK, Peter (Paula) Barthelmes of Waterford, PA, his grandchildren David (Brittany) Anderson, Jesse (Shaddow Walters) Anderson, Tori (Alex) Cochrane and great granddaughters Leyla, Lauralie and Lainey. Terry will also be greatly missed by his buddy Mittens, the attack cat, and many loving nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Josephine Avery Barthelmes and brothers Butch, Norb and Garth Barthelmes.

Terry was a 1953 graduate of Academy High School and attended Penn State University.  He served in the United States Air force from 1956 to 1960 and went on to work at Copes-Vulcan as a production control manager for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. Terry was a long-time member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Erie, PA. He also enjoyed participating in many sports; especially softball, working out at Pennbriar and walking at the Peninsula with his devoted wife by his side. During his retirement, Terry enjoyed making dollhouses and camping with his family at Camp Sherwin. Terry’s most precious pastime was spending quality time with his family and friends. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street, Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Erik Young officiating.  Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street, Erie, PA  16502.
