Tony Lee Thornton age 56 of Erie, Pa passed away on Wednesday, January 29th 2014 at UPMC Hamot Hospital. Tony was born Sept 28th 1957 In Butler, Alabama to the late Mr. Robert Thornton and Mrs. Julia Lee Johnson who currently lives in Mobile, Alabama.
Tony grew up in Toxy, Alabama but resided in Erie, Pa most of his life. He was employed at General Electric for over 25 years until his recent retirement in 2013 due to an illness. He was fond of fishing, sports and gardening. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Tony was a wonderful husband and father and he will be profoundly missed by his loved ones.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of over 20 years Lydia Ross Thornton and their three sons, Tony Lee Joseph Jr, Matthew Lee Isaac, and Brandon Lee Jeremiah Thornton, two daughters Kiya Lisa Marie Thornton and stepdaughter Nettie Ruth Marie Johnson and her husband Darnell. He also leaves two step grandchildren Wayne Fuller Jr. and Darion Johnson who all live in Erie Pa. He is further survived by his brothers Ira Gene (Bruh) Thornton and his wife Donicha of Yarbo, Alabama, William Robinson, Jr.
“Doobie”, James Lee Robinson and his wife Jeanett, and Keith Robinson all of Erie; sisters Patricia Philon and her husband Woodie of Silas, Alabama, Thelma Davis and her husband Oscar, of Mobile, Alabama, and Meslica Roberts and her husband Dexter, Louise Dixon and her husband Robert, Tynia Brewton and her husband Kenneth, all of Erie. His stepmother Vinnie Lee Robinson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to his father, Tony was preceded in death by a son Deltonio Murphy, a brother, Arther Lee Thornton, a step sister, Tammy Sue Robinson and his step mother, Vinnie Lee Robinson.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie, Pa. 16502 on Sunday, from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm and are invited to services on Monday at 11:00 am at St. James AME Church, 236 East 11th Street, Erie, Pa. 16503 with Reverend Kary Williams Jr. and Reverend Dorothy Ross officiating. Burial in Erie Cemetery.
