Timothy M. Skarupski Sr., age 77, of Erie, died on Monday May 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie, PA on November 11, 1938, a son of the late Thaddeus and Teresa Dombrowski Skarupski.
He graduated from Tech Memorial in 1956 and attended Gannon University and Elmira College. He served in the Navy. He was a nursing home administrator and Commandant at the Soldier and Sailors Home for many years.
Timothy was an active member of the Jaycees in Horseheads, New York. He held positions of Director, Vice President and President from 1964-1968 and was Chairman of the Horseheads Free Library Committee. He was a member and past director of the East Erie Boys Club of America. He was active in the Erie County Republican Party, serving as Chairman from 1974-75. He served on the Fairview School District Board for several years and as President from 1980-81. He also served on the Board of the Erie County Council on Child Abuse and Neglect from 1985-93 and was a member and past president of the Erie County Foster Parents Association from 1985-90. He and his wife fostered over 30 children.
He was a founding member of Holy Cross Parish in Fairview, a current member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, and was also a member of the Elks Club, Siebenbuerger Club, Polish Falcons and Moniuzcko Singing Society. He received the following awards: Service to Children Award - PA Foster Parents Association, 1990; Inducted into the Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor, a national meritorious service award - Philadelphia, 1988; Erie County Republican Committee Helen Schluraff Award, 1979; William J. North Memorial Award, Erie County Republican Party Committeeman of the Year, 1973; Man of the Year - Horseheads, NY Jaycees, 1967; and the Legion Award of the Polish Falcon National Association of America.
He liked hunting, fishing and golf. He achieved two holes in one during his lifetime. His most precious joy was his family and his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terrance Skarupski.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Barbara Hathaway Skarupski; his children: Karen Ann Skarupski of Erie, Kathryn A. Evanoff and her friend Mark Schlaudecker of Meadville, Timothy M. Skarupski, Jr and his wife Karen of Erie, Lisa M. Osinski and her husband Karl of Millcreek, Michele Leigh Timmers and her husband John of Harborcreek, Michael Coffey of Arlington, VA, Craig Coffey and his wife Jessica of Cleveland, OH, and Robert Coffey of Erie; fourteen grandchildren: Hannah and Molly Phelps, Amanda Fendone and her husband Joey, Alex Evanoff and his wife Amber, Emma Evanoff, Timothy M. Skarupski III, Kiara Baginski, Katie, Jack, Michael and Bridget Osinski, John Pikiewicz, and Madeline and Eleanor Timmers; and three great grandchildren: Gabriella and Joey Fendone and Evelynn Evanoff. He is further survived by two brothers Thomas Skarupski and his friend Cheryl Adams of Millcreek, and Ted Skarupski of Virginia; a sister-in-law Gwen Skarupski of Erie, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. and attend Prayers at the funeral home on Friday June 3rd at 8:50am and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th St. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
