Erie

Timothy Peter Brown, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. Tim was born in Chisholm MN on May 3, 1945 and grew up with extended family in Buhl MN. He graduated from St Benedict College in Kansas City with a degree in English and then embarked on his first career by completing a 3 year culinary apprenticeship at the Kansas City Club. As Chef/Executive Chef, Tim literally worked around the world from Hawaii to Los Angeles to Pinehurst NC and even the high seas on cruise ships. In 1986, he was recognized by the Sheridan Corporation with the prestigious Pacific Division President’s Award for Outstanding Management Performance.

This variety of cuisines, cultures and experiences prepared Tim for his second career as a culinary instructor, first in Florida and then at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Upon retirement, he was named Professor Emeritus. During his tenure at IUP, Tim completed a masters and doctorate degree. Post retirement, Tim came to Erie and opened a local business, Gelateria Barbara, where he produced authentic gelato and pasta.

He is survived and profoundly missed by his wife, Barbara Kroh and her children: Jason (Michelle), Jesse, Martin (Jodi) Kroh. Tim is preceded in death by his father, Bernard Buford Brown and mother, Irma Marie Grigoni Brown.

Private arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. As Tim has friends, former students and colleagues at great distances, in lieu of flowers or winter travel, his family suggests those who wish to remember Tim should mark May 3rd on their calendar and lift a glass to celebrate his 80th birthday.
