Thomas Wurst

December 31, 1969 — December 7, 2013

Thomas J. Wurst, age 62, of Millcreek Twp, died at home after a four year battle with brain cancer on Saturday December 7. He was born in Erie, November 19, 1951 and was the son of Irene (Sharie) Wurst and the late Earl Wurst. He graduated from McDowell High School in 1969 and worked for General Electric on final assembly as a welder, retiring in 2007. He loved car races, fishing, hockey, football and especially high school and college basketball following General McLane all the way to Penn State when they won the state title in 2007. He also spent many hours volunteering and maintaining the track at Presque Isle BMX when his boys were racing their bikes. He loved fishing with his brother-in-law, John Adams.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Robertson (and her husband David) and Janet Wurst, and by his brother Charles in 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Becky (Adams) Wurst; two sons, Greg and his wife Kristy of Millcreek; Brian and his wife Emily of Erie and by two loving grandchildren; Ava and Kayden who always made him smile. Also survived by brothers Earl and wife Ginger of Albion, Ronald and his wife Kathy of Waterford, David of Michigan and sister-in-law Christine (Charles). Further survived by many special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Thank you to family and friends, Dr. Shah and all the staff at the Regional Cancer Center and Great Lakes Hospice for his wonderful care.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2:00 till 4:00 pm and 7:00 till 9:00 pm at Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) Erie, Pa. 16506 and are invited to a service there on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Private burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
