Thomas Schirra

August 9, 1937 — August 17, 2021

Thomas J. Schirra age 84, of Erie and Holly Hill, FL passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at St. Vincent Medical Center.

He was born in Pittsburgh on August 9, 1937, a son of the late Joseph F. and Teresa Stadler Schirra.

After graduating High School, Tom went on to serve in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Courtney.  After serving in the Navy, Tom enjoyed a long career with Thorofare Super Markets in Pittsburgh retiring after 30 years.  After retirement Tom also worked for DeBartolo Food Service at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena and ARA Food Service at the Pittsburgh Convention center.  Tom also took care of property management for his good friend Frank Farina.

Tom was the jack of all trades, he could do just about everything from working on cars to home remodeling, whatever needed done Tom could, and did, do.  Tom enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, and spending time with his children, and grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Gladys Fissel, brother Donald, and an infant son Tommy.

He is survived by his wife Audrey (Camp) Schirra whom he wed on August 29, 1956.  He is also survived by his daughters Kimberly, of Homestead FL, Sandra (James) Speicher, of Colorado Springs, CO, Christine (Paul) Laskey, of Pittsburgh, PA, Tracy (Glenn) Henning, of Sewickley, PA, and son Randall (Cathy) Schirra Sr., of Edinboro, PA.  Tom is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Tom is also survived by a sister-in-law Beverly Tate and her companion Chris Laird, of Erie, PA, and a brother-in-law Samuel (Marlene) Camp of New Kensington, PA.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W 26th Street on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. until a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association and/or the American Diabetes Association.
