Thomas R. Hoffman, 84, passed away on October 18, 2024, with his wife, soulmate and best friend, Carol Hoffman at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Dick; his sister, Elizabeth Winnen; his grandson, Jason Hoffman; mother-in-law, Rose Chiappazzi; brother-in-law, Donald Fanzini; sister-in-law, Rita Chiappazzi; niece, Angela Gangemi; and nephew, Bret Duckett.
Tom, born May 18, 1940, was the oldest child of Rita and Dick Hoffman. He is survived by his siblings Mike Hoffman (Pat), Bob Hoffman (Kathy) and Mary Hoffman. He is also survived by three sons: Tom (Patty), Rick, and Mathew (Meltem). Tom held various positions at Eckerd Drug Company, which required time away from home. Tom had a strong faith and proudly told the story of how Carmelite Nuns in Erie helped him find his new career in Erie, at the PA Department of Welfare. He was also an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern PA. His dedication to helping and serving others did not stop with his retirement as Personnel Director at the PA Department of Welfare. He continued his service through many organizations such as Cursillo, Our West Bayfront, Bay Harbor Neighborhood Watch, and the Hamot Aid Society.
Tom and Carol enjoyed the company of their children especially their grandchildren most every Sunday. It was Tom’s hope that he and Carol could create many happy memories for their grandchildren. His mission was successful, as each grandchild has their own personal story and memory of “Papa Tom”.
Tom’s family would like to thank the staff and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital, Dr. Brian Stark, and dear friend Sue McNally for the care they provided to Tom.
