Thomas Burger

Thomas Burger, age 75, of Girard, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family after a short battle with cancer.

He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 27, 1941, a son of the late Herbert and Mathilda Ulmer Burger.

Tom graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard in 1960. He retired after over 40 years from PHB Die Casting in Fairview as the 3rd Shift Supervisor.

He enjoyed gardening, golfing and his Cleveland Browns Football team. He also loved his long walks with his faithful walking companion, his black lab, “Abby Girl”.

Tom lived for the Burger Open Golf Tournament. Tom and John against Neil Sr. and Neil Jr.. Wish I could play one more time guys, of course John, we would beat them once again. John you will have to play for the both of us, I’ll be there with you guys in spirit. John you’ll have to do the dance alone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Burger and two sisters, Catherine Boswell and Lois Cox.

Tom is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marian ”Jeanne” (Peters) Burger; two daughters, Regina Buie and her husband, Thomas of Girard and Susan Sweeney of Conneaut, OH; a son, Thomas L. Burger, Jr. of Conneaut, OH; and three grandchildren, Stephanie “Pumpkin”Sweeney, Katie Burger and Cody Burger. He is further survived by a sister, Susan K. Ingram of Crawfordville, FL and a brother, Neil Burger and his wife Carol of Lake City, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Wednesday from 4-7pm and are invited to attend a service there on Thursday at 10 am with Rev. Clyde Davis officiating.

Inurnment will be at Girard Cemetery at a later date.
