Theodore Nyberg

October 8, 1926 — June 22, 2013

Theodore N. “Ted” Nyberg age 86, of Erie, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on October 8, 1926 a son of the late David W. and Emma Nilsson Nyberg. He attended Millcreek High School and left to serve in the US Navy during WW II. After returning from the war he was proud to complete his high school education and earn a pilot’s license. He worked as a line supervisor with General Telephone for 30 years. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing & wood working. During winters in Florida he enjoyed horseback riding and crop dusting on the Welles Ranch, which belonged to their dear friend Terry. Ted was a longtime member of the Erie Yacht Club, where he was affectionately known as “The Swede”, the Elk’s Club and the Tuesday morning Taki’s Lunch Bunch. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by three brothers; Arthur, Raymond and Paul Nyberg. In addition to his wife, Jeanne Knowles Nyberg, he is survived by daughters Cheryl Nyberg and Gail Panella; step-daughter Toby (Mark) Hunter of Summerville, South Carolina and step-son Gregory (Sondra) of Atlanta; grandson Ryan Panella, step grandchildren, Missy Hunter (Matt) and Peter Hunter; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. A special thank you to his good friends and helpers from the CHF clinic - Amber, Kelly and Nancy; also a big thank you to Dr. Ward as well as the staff of St. Vincent Health Center that pampered him and provided excellent care. Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Ave.) on Wednesday from 4 until 7 PM with a service immediately following with the Reverend Keith Sundberg officiating. Memorials may be made to: The American Heart Association or The American Association for Respiratory Care.
