Theodore Bennett

August 30, 1936 — January 4, 2023

Theodore G. “Ted” “Teddy” “Uncle Ted” Bennett age 86, of Millcreek, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Residence at Presque Isle Bay following a short illness with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born in Erie on August 30, 1936 the son of the late George W. and Marie F. Wuenschel Bennett.

Ted grew up in Marvintown and had a great childhood where he met lifelong friends. During his teen years he worked as a paper delivery boy. He attended St. John’s Catholic School, Woodrow Wilson and graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1955.

He worked as a Senior Design Draftsman for American Sterilizer now Steris for 38 years until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Julia Church Parish where he had served as an Usher, Erie Elks Lodge #67, was a co-founder and former Past President of the Bay City Gun Club and a member of the Erie County Trap League.

Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and spending every fall at Jim’s camp in Westline, PA for deer season. He especially loved spending time with family and his wife Maxine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Bennett; in-laws, Max Wirth and Ann Mando Wirth Tatara; and a brother in law, Ronald Max Wirth.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Maxine Wirth Bennett; a brother, William E. Bennett and his wife Anita; nieces and nephews, Kevin W. Bennett, Julie M. Horn, Timothy W. Bennett (Katherine), Matthew W. Bennett (Kathryn), Derek S. Wirth (Tina) and Tammi Wirth Senecal (Mike); a sister in law, Sandra Wirth; and several great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and godchildren. He is further survived by his cat, Coco.

The family would like to say thank you to the staff at the Residence at Presque Isle Bay and VNA for the wonderful care Ted received.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Julia Church 638 Roslyn Ave, Erie, PA 16505. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601; Chosen Mission Project 3638 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506; any local Animal Shelter or to a charity of one’s choice.
