Terry Healey passed away at home in Erie on October 25, 2023. He contained multitudes, as his friend Walt Whitman would say, and his loss leaves a void for many. Former students will remember him as a singularly inspirational English teacher and soccer coach (Mercyhurst Prep) who encouraged them to follow their own path. He was born May 10, 1938 in Bradford, PA to Jane (Smith) and Joseph Healey. He and his sister Judy Freaney (John) were also raised by their stepfather Bill Evans. He spent many fondly remembered hours with his grandfather. He loved his school days and classmates from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Bradford. He spent four years in the Air Force, including time in Korea just after the war.
Thereafter, he earned a degree at Gannon in Erie, where he settled after marrying Patricia E. Healey (Rodgers). They have loved and supported each other with grace through sixty years of marriage. In addition to Patty, he is survived by his son Patrick (Strongsville, OH) and his wife Jennifer (Katona), as well as their sons Shane and Owen. He is also survived by his other son Sean (Eden, UT), Sean’s wife Kirsten (Cooke), and their daughters Corinna and Brigid. He loved each fiercely, and they knew it. His friends at Romolo’s were important to him, as were his old students. The world is better for having met Terry Healey, and he will be greatly missed.
Private arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown 602 West 10th Street, Erie.
