Suzanne Jane Burnison Burrows, age 91, went into the arms of the Lord on June 10, 2023. She passed away peacefully at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center in Erie. She was born on January 23, 1932, in Camden, New Jersey to the late James and Minnie Burnison.
Suzanne graduated from Beaver College in Glenside, Pennsylvania with a degree in Business Management in 1954. She was active in numerous campus organizations. After graduation she enjoyed being involved in the Beaver College Alumni Association. On April 10, 1954, she married the love of her life William R. Burrows III whom she had known since the third grade. She devoted herself to raising her two children and she was consistently there for them in church, school, and scouting activities. She and her family lived in eight locations through the years due to Bill’s employment with General Electric and finally settled in Erie in 1977. In 1996, she and Bill retired to Naples, Florida. Suzanne was devoted to the service of our Lord through her active involvement in the Episcopal Church. She was an organist, a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School leader and member of numerous boards. At St. Stephens in Fairview, she started and operated the Chime Shoppe. Suzanne was a lifetime member of the Junior League where she held numerous leadership positions and participated in many charitable activities. In Naples, Florida she was president of the prestigious League Club from 2002-2003. Through her leadership it raised record amounts of funds that benefited many charities in southwest Florida. She was a master bridge player and enjoyed playing the game throughout her life. She organized many bridge groups and enjoyed teaching the game to beginners. Suzanne was a gracious hostess, and she and Bill loved to entertain friends and family. Her home was welcoming to all people, and she was renowned for her culinary skills.
In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her sister Jeanette Niederjohn. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sandmeyer and her husband Bruce; her son, William IV and his wife Lynda; grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Chelsea, William V, Dustin and great grandchildren, Layla, Hayden, Michael, Charlotte and Ava.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 11:00AM at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Fairview.
