Susan Veenschoten, age 70, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born in Erie on April 23, 1950 a daughter of Muriel Crooks Veenschoten of Erie and the late John C. Veenschoten.
Susan graduated from Maplebrook School, Amenia, NY and then graduated from Riverview Hopefield in Cape Cod, MA. While at Riverview, she spent one semester studying in Ireland.
She worked as a former nurse’s aid at Hamot Hospital before becoming child care technician at Erie Infants Home.
Susan was a former volunteer at the Erie Zoo Pixie Land and volunteer reader for residents at Brevillier Village.
Susan loved horses and was a very fine equestrian; she entered many local horse shows with her beloved horse Sandy and won many ribbons. While she was in Ireland, she enjoyed riding in the beautiful Irish countryside. Susan was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sisters, Judi Shipman (Bill) of Manchester by the Sea, MA and Marcy Tershel (Paul) of Cannonsburg, PA. She is further survived by a nephew Ham Shipman (Noor) and their daughter, Zaynab of Burlington, MA and three nieces: Katie Geyer (Andy) of TX, Liz Roos (Quinten) of TX and Sara Tershel of Colorado.
Private funeral arrangements were entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott at West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St. Due to COVID, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Her family would like to thank April and her family for the friendship and help over the years; as well as the nurses and doctors on UPMC 7th floor for their kindness and compassion.
