Susan Jane Wurst DiCara, of Erie, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday October 18, 2018 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Lavina Eisert Wurst.
Susan graduated from Mercyhurst Preparatory School, Villa Maria College, and earned her master’s degree in education from University of Pittsburgh. She enjoyed her teaching career, especially her time helping children with special needs. Additionally, she spent many years with the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit.
She was a member of St. George Roman Catholic Church and the Erie Women’s Fund at the Erie Community Foundation. She was a happy and energetic person that loved the beach, her flower garden, and, most of all, traveling. She also enjoyed volunteer work at Emmaus Soup Kitchen, The Young People’s Chorus and the Neighborhood Art House Core Committee. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Sally Wurst DiSantis.
She is survived by two sons: Dan DiCara and his husband, Tim, of Hull, MA and James DiCara and his wife Tracy of Quakertown; two grandchildren: Nicholas and Caitlin DiCara; three sisters: Martha Hilbert and her husband Bill Sr., Patricia Herrmann, and Nancy Wurst, all of Erie; former husband: James DiCara, and her granddogs: Ollie and Leo. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on the family on Sunday October 21 at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, 602 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16502 from 1–4pm and 6-8pm and attend prayers at the funeral home on Monday October 22 at 9:15am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. George Roman Catholic Church, 5145 Peach St., Erie, PA 16509 with Rev. Leo Gallina presiding.
