Dr. Steven K. Bowers, age 61, of Girard passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015. He was born at McCord Air Force Base, Tacoma, WA on November 26, 1953, son of Helen B. Bowers and the late Leven L. Bowers.
Dr. Bowers was a graduate of Gateway Senior High School, Monroeville, PA; served in the United States Navy, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh; and received his M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine
Steve was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church; he was an avid guitarist and motorcyclist; Steve loved his children, family, his work and his dog Motley; he was extremely intelligent with a strong desire to learn; he enjoyed philosophical readings, politics, John Lennon’s music, hang gliding and vacationing at the Outer Banks, his vacation home in Punta Gorda, FL and international travel; he had been to Dubai, Thailand, Tokyo and Russia.
He is preceded in death by his father Leven L. Bowers and his sister Betty Sue Goldstein.
He is survived by, his mother, Helen Bowers; his five children, Michael Bowers, Holly Bowers, Ryan Bowers, all of Erie, Joy (John) Glath, Butler, PA, and Jessica (William) Mulkey, Fayetteville, NC and four grandchildren; his five sisters, Laura Talak (David Romesberg, fiancé) West Mifflin, PA, Amy Cortazzo, Punta Gorda, FL, Debra (Peter) Chittick, Cranberry, PA, Kara (Robert) Dulemba, Penn Township, PA, Rachel (Leon) Martin, Durango, CO. and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend services there on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Chuck Cammarata officiating.
