Stephen Smith

Stephen J. “Sonny” Smith, age 91, of Girard, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Erie on December 26, 1929, a son of the late John R. and Veronica Carnecki Smith.

Steve had worked at various plastic shops including Copes Vulcan and Erie Ceramic Arts.

He loved cars, especially driving his Model A and enjoyed building model airplanes.  Steve had a soft spot for animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Joe and James Smith, Betty Kay Smith and Mary Jane Raines.

He is survived by his companion of  30 years, Janice Vacco; her daughter, Kayleen Sypin of Erie; and his sisters, Veronica “Ronnie” Reigel of Girard and Ruth Ann (Jerry) Tubbs of Millcreek.  He is further survived by many nieces and nephews that adored him.

Friends are invited to a graveside service on Friday, April 23^rd at 11 am at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 5711 W Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16505. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott.
