Stephen M. Chlebus, age 89, of Erie, died on Thursday July 30, 2015 at the PA Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home surrounded by family. He was born in Youngstown, OH on November 11, 1925 son of the late John and Anna Vestue Chlebus.
He was a graduate of Wilson High School in Youngstown, OH. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1942 until 1945, South Pacific. He worked for various landscaping companies throughout the years in Youngstown, Erie, and St. Augustine, FL.
He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anita Scott Chlebus, his brothers and sisters: Mary Saunders, Julia Pallay, Ann Sartorio, Rose Parilla, Betty Krzysztofiak, Joseph Chlebus and John Chlebus, a grandchild Lindsay Nemenz and his granddaughter’s fiance Jeramy “Junebug” Smith.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lorraine Kerti and her husband Michael of Palm Coast, FL, Ruth Alberstadt and her husband Jay of Erie; two sons, Stephen Michael Chlebus, Jr. and his wife Lauri of Ponte Vedra, FL, William Robert Chlebus and his wife Diane of Erie, a sister, Margaret Broll of Youngstown, OH.
He is further survived by his grandchildren: Lisa Robbins (Dan) of North Benton, OH, Stephanie Nick (Scott), Stephen Nemenz (Elizabeth), Julie Ross (Matt), Carly Chlebus, all of Erie, Melissa Nemenz of Pittsburgh, Ashley Chlebus and her mother, Linda Chlebus of Jacksonville, FL; and six great grandchildren: Aaron and Zachary Robbins of North Benton, OH , Mia Nemenz of Pittsburgh, Ryleigh Pearl Ross, Harper Grace Nick, and Holden Smith, all of Erie.
Burial will be private at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street, 16502, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Holden Smith Account, c/o Burton Funeral Home or Our Lady Christian School, 606 Lowell Ave, Erie, PA 16505
