Stanley Ray Creekmore,, age 64, of Erie, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest on Tuesday May 19, 2020 at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on April 12, 1956 to the late Bland Upton and Gloria Jean Creekmore. As a child and young man he moved with his family to California and Puerto Rico, returning to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he graduated from Kempsville High School in 1974. Hampton Roads, Virginia was his home for many years before he moved to Erie where he lived for the past 10 years with his best friend.
Stan had a lifelong love for both NASCAR and NHRA. He turned that love into a journalism career, reporting on races for several different publications. Writing gave him the freedom to travel the country every year, allowing him to visit many parts of the country most people never get to see. Photography was also one of his passions and he enjoyed photographing the natural world in all its beauty.
Stan was the biggest fan of the Erie band The Groove. He made it to as many shows as possible, no matter what. Wherever they played he could be found, enjoying the music, camaraderie of good friends, and cheering on the band.
Throughout his life and travels Stan made friends where ever he went. He delighted in sharing his passions with them, always inviting them to join him at race tracks and showing them the inner workings of NASCAR and NHRA.
Stan is survived by his best friend and roommate, Kate Hess of Erie, Pennsylvania; his daughter Kristen Yocum of Erie; his brothers Steve Creekmore of Jacksonville, FL and Michael Creekmore of Norfolk, VA, along with family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A public service will not be held at this time. Please celebrate Stan’s life by dancing to the music of your favorite local band, enjoying a NASCAR or NHRA race, and traveling the world to marvel in its splendor.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. Erie, PA 16506.
Memorials to honor Stan’s life may be made to Victory Junction, www.victoryjunction.org.
