Sidney Henderson

Sidney Henderson, age 88, of Erie, transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, August 8, 2016, at The Village at Luther Square. Sidney was born in Meridian, MS on June 18, 1928, to the late Julius and Alma Barnett Henderson.

Sidney was a member of Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ where he served on the Deacon Board. He was a big time fisherman, a sharp dresser and enjoyed gardening, cooking and dancing. Sidney worked as a steam press operator at Frank’s Cleaners for 16 years and was also employed at Welch Foods Inc.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Rosemary Coleman Henderson; sons, Junior Gibbs, George Clinton and Melvin Henderson; daughter, Elma Summors; brothers Lee Isaacs and William (Bill) Henderson and sister, Mary Neil Evans.

Sidney leaves to cherish in memory, his sons Sidney, Jr. and Calvin Henderson; daughters, Mattie Ratcliff, Patricia Roberts, Debbie Ward and GeGe Pulliam and sister, Minnie Velma of Oakland ,CA, and 71 grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special acknowledgement to the Deacons of Holy Trinity COGIC, who brought Holy Communion to his home every 1st Sunday of the month.

Arrangements handled by Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th St. Erie, PA 16502. Services and burial will be private at the request of the family.
