Shirley Elma Trombetta, age 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2016.
She was born in Erie, PA on July 26, 1931, daughter of the late Elmer and Bertha Zimmer.
She graduated from Strong Vincent and was a perky cheerleader. She worked at Hammermill Paper before marrying the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Trombetta for 65 years. Together, they started Trombetta’s Fine Furniture and ran it successfully for 45 years. They resided in the Lake Shore Country Club community. She was involved in garden club, and avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis at Westwood. Dick and Shirley retired to Hutchinson Island, Florida, where they loved the sunshine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, and her brother, Don Zimmer.
Shirley is survived by her four children: Richard A. Trombetta (Marybeth) of Philadelphia, PA, Sherry Griffo of Naples, FL, Cindy Horner (Dennis) of High Point, NC, and Shelly Miller (Rusty) of Erie, PA; Ten grandchildren: Tara Green (Jon), Tamra Mucci (Scott), Troy Trombetta (Kayla), Tina Flick (Jonathon), Torie Downs (Jeremy), Paula Dunn (James), Annie Griffo, Jason Tomczak, Jen Acken (Jason), Shannon Miller, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, David F. Zimmer (Eleanor). She will be greatly missed by them all.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Regency at South Shore for their loving care.
Per Shirley’s request, No public funeral arrangements will be held. Arrangements entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St., Erie.
