Shirley Stack

Shirley (Smith) Stack, age 83, of East Springfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.

She was born in Warsaw, NY, on November 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Vernon and Margaret Smith.

Shirley graduated from Warsaw High School. After working as a nurse’s aide for many years she attended the Catherine McCawley School of Nursing in Batavia,NY while raising six children. She then went on to obtain her RN license.

After moving to Pennsylvania in 1979, she continued her nursing career for a year at St. Vincent Hospital before moving on to the Erie VA Hospital, where she worked passionately until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Donald W. Stack in 2004; a son, Randy S. Stack in 2005; a grandson, Matthew J. DuBois Jr. in 2001;a sister, Patricia Trant in 2002; and a son in law, Matthew J. DuBois Sr.in 2002.

Shirley is survived by her five children: Kathleen DuBois of Pavilion, NY, Linda Wilcox of East Springfield,Pa, James (Heidi) Stack of Warsaw, NY, Julie Stack of Milton, FL, and Judy Alward (Brent Crane) of Albion; twelve grandchildren: Crystal DuBois, Harley DuBois, Heather (Troy) Gephardt, Amy (Steven)Sherman, Taralee (George) Rea, Jacob, Megan and Morgan Alward, Stacie (Michael) Anderson, Kellie (Mike) Ottley , James (Christina)Stack and Katie (Wayne) Helser; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Skippy.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jen Martin and Asera Care Hospice and Pastor Barb English for their care and support during this very difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11 am at the McKean United Methodist Church, 5041 North Main St. McKean, PA 16456 with Reverend Barbara English officiating.
