Shirley Sanner Packard
Shirley Sanner Packard, age 92, of Erie, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Marquette Hospice House in Meadville, PA where she had been a resident since December 16, 2014. She was born July 20, 1922 in Erie the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Anna Bechtold Sanner.
Shirley had worked as a secretary to the Dean, Dr. William Garvey, at Mercyhurst College and later worked in the Prothonotary’s Office at the Erie County Courthouse. For a period of time from 2005-2010, she had lived in Warren, PA.
Shirley enjoyed painting, golf, and tennis and also had taken art classes at the Hilltop Senior Center. She was also a member of the St. Mark’s Seminary Auxiliary and she very much loved people and enjoyed social gatherings.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Thomas V. Carrick and two sisters; Lois Mugford and Nancy Becker.
Shirley is survived by two sons; Rev. Walter E. Packard of the Catholic community of Titusville, PA and Christopher S. Packard and his wife Beth of Lakeland, TN. She is the grandmother of Elizabeth Anne and Wyatt Packard, and is the sister of Raymond J. Sanner and his wife Marie of Erie. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St., on Friday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew Catholic Church celebrated by her son.
